A hidden treasure of a beach in the town of Falmouth. Located on the Buzzard's Bay side of Cape Cod, the beach faces West for fantastic sunsets. The tidal changes are more evident here than any other beach in the area. At low tide beachgoers can walk out into the ocean for large distances and still remain in relative shallow water. There is also a shallow inlet which spans about 100 yards and allows children to float on their backs or on rafts with the current safely down the channel. The back tidal pool and marsh area is a fantastic place for kids to explore and enjoy the schools of minnows, small hermit crabs, or dig for clams. The beach is truly a favorite for locals located between West Falmouth and Woods Hole off of Sippewissett Rd.
"The Good Life"
From across a channel the beachfront of Chapoqouit Island can be seen. Although now the area has been connected by a bridge in West Falmouth, the private community still refers to itself as an island. The original name for the area was Hog Island in reference to the animals that were raised there. High among the treetops is the old "Hog Island Water Tower" built in 1895. It consists of a pink granite rubble base with a large round observatory platform and a crowning conical roof. At the time of it's construction, it served as a focal point for the development and stands on the island's highest point.
